How to Check Housing Subsidy Status Online?
The exact process may vary depending on the housing program, but most housing subsidy portals follow a similar procedure.

Visit the portal
Open the official Housing Subsidy System (HSS) portal or the Department of Human Settlements website where housing subsidy status enquiries are available or a trusted 3rd party site like hssonlinestatus.co.za.
Enter your 13-digit ID number
Provide the required information, which includes your South African ID number only.
Verify your ID
Carefully review what you entered so it matches the details submitted with your original application. Incorrect information may prevent the system from locating your record.
Submit your search
Click the green Check Status button. Your ID number is searched against the national Housing Subsidy System, which covers all nine provinces — Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West and Western Cape.

The system then displays your full application details: province code, application ID, name, application type, phase no, project name, ID number, area, site no, status, status type, construction status, happy letter and the declined or approved reason.

The enquiry runs in your browser on any phone. Under the National Housing Code, Part 3, Section 7.11, no lender or any other party may charge you an administration fee for a First Home Finance application. If anyone asks for a fee, report them to NHFC.

In Progress
Your application is moving through capture, verification and searches.

Approved
A subsidy has been approved against your ID, allocation is a separate stage.

Declined
A decline is not always permanent, read the reason carefully, some can be corrected.

Other Ways to Check Your Housing Subsidy Status
Not every applicant uses the online HSS portal. If the website is unavailable or you do not have internet access, there are several other ways to check your housing subsidy application status through official channels.

What Does “In Allocation” Mean in RDP Status?
“In allocation” means that the provincial Allocation Committee is in the process of deciding who should be allocated a house and you are among the applicants being considered.
Registered
You are registered on the National Housing Needs Register, the Department’s database of households who need housing. The Department has confirmed it does not keep a “waiting list” this register is what provinces draw beneficiaries from.
Position in area
A reference number reflecting how many people applied in your area.
In allocation
The Committee is deciding who the beneficiaries will be. Your file is in front of the people who actually decide who gets a house in a given project.
Approval and allocation are not the same thing. Reaching “In Allocation” is a meaningful step forward, but housing availability in your project still sets the timeline.

FLISP Application Status Check
FLISP is now officially called First Home Finance and is administered by the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC), not through the Housing Subsidy System. It is a once-off subsidy that helps households earning R3,501 to R22,000 per month buy or build a first home.
It can be used with a bond, with non-mortgage finance such as pension-backed, employer-assisted, cooperative or unsecured housing loans, or on its own. Because it runs on a separate system, the ID checker above will not return a First Home Finance application, check it at fhf.nhfc.co.za instead.
How to Check FLISP Application Status
- Go to fhf.nhfc.co.za, To check only whether you have previously benefited from a government housing subsidy, click Check Eligibility or directly on this page (https://fhf.nhfc.co.za/Admission/CheckEligibility), no registration is needed.
- To check an application enter Enter RSA ID Number and choose from any of the 3 “Person types” dropdown.
- Then Click Add Button
- After that the page reloads and a Check Eligibility button appears
- Click on Check Eligibility button
- You will get your FLISP application status.
Applicants should monitor their accounts regularly because additional verification may be required during processing.
